“Kosher Karavan” and Hurricane Irma Relief

“Kosher Karavan” to Take Donations for Florida Hurricane Relief

2014-07-02 08.49.23After seeing the devastation from Hurricane Irma, John Kauth in Summerville SC, husband of the late Donna Levitz Kauth (OBM) and volunteer for the Summerville/North Area Jewish Community wanted to donate his Saturn car to someone in need in Florida. Charleston Jewish Family Services found a deserving family in Broward County through Goodman JFS of Broward County FL.  To honor his late Jewish wife’s memory, John’s car is going to be donated to a Jewish family whose car was totaled by a fallen tree. The family is also facing health issues and this car donation is going to be an incredible help to them.  John and friends from Summerville are driving the car down to Florida to sign the title over to the family as a gift on October 3rd. Through the generosity of Crews Chevrolet of Charleston, the car will arrive in tip-top shape!

According to Dawn Staton, Director of Programs and Volunteers at Goodman JFS, “This is an amazing mitzvah (good deed) all of you are performing and we truly appreciate what you’re doing.”

The “Kosher Karavan” will leave Summerville on Monday October 2 and the goal of CJFS is to fill up the donated car with Kosher, non-perishable items to bring down to The Cupboard which is Goodman JFS’s Kosher Food Pantry. Requested items include:
